Welcome to the Institute of Psychosexual Psychotherapy, where we offer a comprehensive and accredited Diploma in Psychosexual Psychotherapy.
This program is designed for qualified talk therapists seeking to specialise in psychosexual and relationship psychotherapy, equipping you with the advanced knowledge and practical skills necessary to excel in this vital field of psychotherapy.
Fully accredited with COSRT at Level 7. Upon completion, graduates gain entry to both the Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy (PRT) and Relationship Therapy (RT) COSRT register—conferring the right to practice as both a Psychosexual Therapist and Relationship Therapist.
Delivered part-time over two years through 20 weekend modules (Sundays and Mondays, 10am–5pm). Psychosexual medicine and dysfunction modules are delivered by medical doctors and highly experienced clinicians. Relationship therapy modules are integrative, including CBT, Humanistic, Psychodynamic, and Systemic approaches.
Teaching weekends focus on theoretical frameworks and evidence-based practices through lectures and discussions, combined with hands-on skills practice (role plays, case studies, and group work).
Guest lecturers bring specialist expertise across psychosexual therapy, relationship therapy, sexual medicine, and psychology (including domestic violence, gender/sexuality/relationship diversity, sexual offending, sexual compulsivity, trauma-informed practice, neurodivergence, intersectionality, and EDI).
Diploma graduates can progress onto the Psychotherapy Practitioner Diploma. Successful completion, along with post-qualifying clinical practice and COSRT accreditation, leads to full clinical membership with the UKCP.
Two modes of attendance: online or in person. The online programme is open to international students and UK students who require online attendance.
Students undertake 50 hours of PPD during the two years of the diploma, at least 20 hours of which must be personal therapy. Each module includes a one-hour reflective process group (20 hours of PPD included as part of the programme).
Students complete a 150-hour clinical training placement and can complete up to 70% of placement hours online. Some applicants may be eligible to complete placement hours within their own private practice (subject to evidence and approval).
Clinical supervision is required at a ratio of 1:6 (one hour per six hours of clinical practice). Direct clinical supervision is not provided as part of the diploma and should be factored as an additional cost.
Suited to those already qualified in talk therapy who are looking to gain specialist training and practice as a Psychosexual and Relationship Therapist.
Applications for entry are open to: Counsellors, Psychotherapists and Practitioner Psychologists who are registered or accredited members of: ACC, BABCP, BACP, BPC, COSCA, HCPC, UKCP, UKAHPP. International students should provide evidence of professional registration with an appropriate governing body in their country of origin and/or current practice.
